Message from Tom McLachlan , Chairman Emeritus.

I was priviliged to be among the small group of MacLachlans who met in 1979 on the initiative of the late 24th Chief, Madame Marjorie to form the Clan MacLachlan Society and I was doubly privileged that I was asked to be the Chairman of the Council.

The Society has expanded greatly from that date and 80% of our membership is now overseas in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States. Our Branches overseas are active in recruitment, issuing their own newsletters, holding social functions, representing the Clan at Highland Games and festivals etc and are growing much faster than we are in Britain and Ireland.

We are a Clan Society; our roots in Scotland, the traditions and histories of the Clan form our core and the Society exists to preserve this heritage. But this core is just as applicable to a member in New Zealand or in Canada as to a member in England. To reflect this changing membership it was appropriate to form an International Society to represent the interests of all members throughout the world and that we form a Britain and Ireland Branch which shall stand together on an equal footing with cousins in Branches in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America.
